Specialist's Information
Throughout the year, your child(ren) will have the opportunity to work with many "specialist" teachers, as well as their homeroom teachers, to provide a solid, well-rounded education to our students. Please click each teacher's name to send an email to the teacher.
Grading in Special Areas:
All special area classes give grades on a 4-point grading scale. Special area courses will be scored using these Progress Indicators: EE (exceeds expectations, 88-100%), ME (met expectations, 75-87.9%), AE (approached expectations, 62-74.9%), and HD (having difficulty, >61.9%). Pre-Kindergarten does not receive specialist's grades; Kindergarten does not receive specialist's grades until the 3rd Marking Period).

Art:
Ms. Michele Hawkins (mhawkins@ccps.org) Mondays, Tuesdays p.m. & Thursdays
In art class, students will learn the necessary skills that are used in the art classroom for creative, academic, and personal growth.
Students will participate in a variety of arts integrated lessons providing a meaningful connection between core subjects and visual arts. Students will be introduced to and work with a variety of materials.

Information Literacy and Computer Science:

In Information Literacy class, formerly Media, students learn skills needed to use the media center and Internet as a resource for academic and personal growth.
Students will use fiction and non-fiction for personal interest and for research. Each week, students will select books they would like to read.
Students in Pre-K thru Grade 2 will have Information literacy all year. Students in Grades 3-5 will have instruction in Information Literacy during 1st and 3rd marking periods. Students in grades 3-5 will develop computational logic skills in problem solving and coding. Computer Science will occur during 2nd and 4th marking periods.
General Music, Chorus and Instrumental Music:

In general music class, we learn skills to help us to create, present, respond and connect to various types of music.
Students will create and present music using their voices, instruments, and technology.
Students will respond and connect to musical styles to better understand various musical concepts.
Students in 4th/5th Grade will have the opportunity to perform in the Winter & Spring Concerts in Chorus, Band or Strings.
Personal Wellness:

The Personal Wellness class teaches essential knowledge and skills which promote healthy habits to enhance a student’s physical, mental/emotional, and social wellbeing.
Students will explore various health topics, including fitness, hygiene, nutrition, mindfulness, self-regulation, communication, safety, creative expression, and self-care.
Weekly sessions will include kinesthetic learning experiences which require physical activity. Students should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.
Physical Education:

The goal of physical education is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
Students will participate in various activities focusing on motor skills, movement patterns, skill development, fitness concepts and knowledge, healthy and nutrition, personal responsibility, and social interaction.
